The reason why I ask this is that it just oc c ur red to me Lego does not make a Miata set, does not appear to be planning a Miata set, and there are no Miata projects on Lego Ideas. No Mx5, no Eunos roadster, nothing. This doesn’t seem right to me. Something must be done about this, so I’m thinking about trying my hand at building a Lego Miata and putting it on Lego Ideas in the hopes that we will one day be able to build one of the world’s most popular sports cars with pl astic bricks!
But first, I need to figure out what generation of Miata would be best for this. I think it should be whatever Miata strikes the best balance of being iconic and widespread. In other words, the most relatable Miata. The NA Miata was the first one that came to mind, but I’ve heard from several people that NA Miatas are actually very uncommon in some countries, so should I do the NB instead? Or should it be the most recent one? What are your thoughts?

As much as I like the NA I think the NB is more relatable.
The NC is a bit less interesting and the ND isn’t as popular (despite being amazing and also currently on sale).
It’ll be hard to replicate the gentle curves of either but I vote NB.

Absolutely the NA. There is zero argument for any other g en if your main qualifiers are iconic and widespread.

Pop up headlights end any debate

The NA is definitely my personal favorite, and I think it’s definitely the most iconic at least here in America (and I imagine most of Europe), but what I’m wondering is if the NB is more relatable since some countries seem to have gotten it but not the NA, and maybe the NB is more common? I dunno, unless somebody comes up with a really good argument to the contrary, I’ll probably go with the NA.

The NC has 4 cupholders
Other than that, whichever one is cheapest, so you can get a good price on it :o)

Oh hai

Where? My NC has “cupholders,” these being two ridiculously unusable cavities directly under the door pulls.
I mean, I get it. The designers:
“Oh you must have
‘cupholders
’ in your
sports car
? Indeed
. Here
you are
.
Enjoy.
”

Anywhere the NA isn’t the most iconic Miata probably barely gets any Miatas. Don’t think there’s anywhere where any other gen is actually widespread and recognized while the NA isn’t.

I prefer the ND but i never drove any nor been in any Mazda in my whole life.
But if it’s for a lego set then maybe a NA which has more cuteness than the NB .

I thought the NC also had 2 in the
center console, like where the later NA has them.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I’ve always loved the NC
Preferably in orange but this grey looks pretty nice too.

Good point.

Agreed. If he can pull off Lego’ing the pop-ups in any fashion: legend.

V8 Miata is best miata

But overall, I go NB, NA, ND, NC.

NA, definitely. Purest expression of the modernized British roadster concept, plus pop-up headlights, which make everything better. Mazda even dismantled and studied an old MG gearbox to duplicate the same whining noise.

Hello fellow BRG Oppo

I’d go fir an NA, with the lights popped up. I feel that could be the easiest way to make it recognizable

My personal opinion, keeping in mind I had a ’99 10th Anniversary Edition NB.
Objectively speaking the ND is the best performing one by a large margin. But I have trouble fitting in the 2016-18 ones and can get much more comfortable in the 2019-up that added the telescoping steering column .
The NA and NB are very similar but I prefer the NB styling and
slightly
more room inside. The NC is kinda the odd duck of the group as it’s bigger and heavier.

I think by this point most of the arguments are for NA, and tbh that was the one I wanted to do the most anyway, so I think that’s the one I’m doing. And of course I’ll find a way to give it pop up headlights :)
![]() 09/27/2020 at 17:18 |

The thing about the NA is that it is, in fact, bad cars
. Horrible cars, even
. Popup headlights are actually stupid, NAs are slow, unreliable, the interior is hot garbage, and they only handle better than any other car with sporting pretension
if you are willing to dump thousands into tires and suspension. Frankly, they’re shit.

Here’s a hot take. All Miatas drive pretty much the same. Doesn’t matter if you’re on stock suspension, Ohlins, Maxpeedingrods, or cut springs. Chinese all seasons or R888Rs. And they’re bad. They are not good cars. They’re not even that fun to drive.
Miatas are horrible. They suck. If I had to pick one car of all the cars I’ve owned to wipe every instance of from the face of the earth, it would be the Miata. Holy shit do these things suck.
The best use of a Miata is scrap metal.

I’ll trade you for that moped. 100% serious.

Ha, something about riding a moped from Wisconsin to Ohio doesn’t quite seem pleasant to me.
![]() 09/28/2020 at 09:04 |

NB because it’s the cheapest and not the most overpriced. When the NC becomes the cheapest, then that’s the best Miata.
![]() 09/28/2020 at 10:44 |

The NA and NB are the same car with a different front end. The subtle differences between generations will be nearly indistinguishable when building with Lego. The correct answer would be to make an NA, and have enough extra pieces for NB front end swap . You don’t alienate either generation and it’s a dozen or two pieces included to change from pop-up to fixed headlights unless you’re doing some massive desk-sized kit.

The best Miata is a paid-off Miata.

NA is correct, but i’m gonna say NB Mazdaspeed, just to be a contrarian.
B
ut also because it had the cutest little FMIC ever put on a car.
